Bremerton Tunnel Project

Construction Begins in July
Starting on July 18, 2007, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) begins building a tunnel in downtown Bremerton to redirect a substantial portion of off-loading ferry traffic to SR 304/Burwell Street. Surface-street improvements and revisions to the Bremerton Transportation Center (BTC) will also be made.

This project is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. Access to downtown and the BTC will be available at all times during construction. A detour will be in place to divert traffic around the construction site.

Project Construction Detour
During construction, downtown Bremerton and the BTC will remain fully accessible, but vehicular traffic will need to use a short detour to avoid the work site. The project is sequenced so that motorists will need to use only one basic detour route along Pacific Avenue for the duration of the project. The only minor change to the detour will occur during Phase Two when traffic on Pacific Avenue will be shifted onto a temporary road that is closer to the Navy Shipyard, and kiss-and-ride traffic will be directed onto 2nd Street.
