Gorst Sewerage & Ultraviolet Treatment Facility Projects
The Gorst Sewerage & Ultraviolet Treatment Projects have captured approximately $13,500,000 in ARRA funding and are ready to begin construction. Factsheets for both projects are available for download:The City of Bremerton has been awarded $7,554,747 in ARRA and Washington State Revolving Fund grants and loans for the Gorst Sewerage Project. These funds will allow the City to address failed on-site sewerage systems in the City's Urban Growth Area. The new sewer system will also help to enhance the health and sustainability of Gorst Creek which flows into Sinclair Inlet (Puget Sound). The project will also provide for the abandonment of residential septic systems and their connection to the sewer system.
The Bremerton Ultraviolet Treatment Facility has been funded by a $6,000,000 ARRA grant and enables the City to meet additional treatment requirements of the Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule. It will provide water treatment by both ultraviolet light and chlorination. The project allows the City to replace the use of gas chlorine for disinfection of its surface supply with liquid sodium hypochlorite, a more secure alternative. This new treatment will add additional safeguards to the City's existing multiple barrier approach to providing high quality drinking water while adding flexibility and reliability in protecting water quality for Bremerton's citizens.
