Chief's Letter

The Bremerton Fire Department's 100th anniversary is dedicated to past and present members who have served the needs of the citizens of Bremerton. One must reflect on the vision and remarkable accomplishments of our past, but we also must look to the future. In this 100-year time period, we have transitioned from horse-drawn fire apparatus to the modern and technological equipment of today. We are proud to present our Centennial Book, celebrating the service and dedication that have made a difference in our citizen's lives. I am proud of the collective talents, initiative and dedication of our past and present members.

I would also like to acknowledge the tragic event of September 11, 2001. On that morning, all of us along with the world watched in total disbelief as those two airliners crashed into the World Trade Center, and moments later, the third jet plowed through the side of the Pentagon. Firefighters understand what it is to be a firefighter. Words like duty and courage, bravery and dedication, selflessness and honor aren't empty slogans as demonstrated that day and every day across the nation. Our hearts and prayers go out to the members and families of the Fire Department of New York. This act of war will not go unforgotten.

Al Duke
